First meeting!

Our first meeting was last week, and was a super awesome time. What happened? We decided that our next meeting will be on October 20, 2010:

The agenda: planning the future of our guild, and determining some time for us to all quilt together!

This months challenge: Make something out of something you normally wouldn’t make something out of. Whether this is old clothes, recycled materials, or something we never thought of, make it into a quilt or a quilt-like something, and bring it along!

This months demo: to be determined! If you have an idea, want to learn something, or want to volunteer to demonstrate something, let us know! (email at edmontonmqg@gmail.com).

We also decided that as a group we would like to get together for some sewing days, and some members are looking into locations for where we could meet for sewing days.

Talk to you all soon!

  1. I have connected with the Westmount Community League. They are willing to exchange space for quilting at the community hall (127 St x 109 Ave) on a monthly basis for some sort of community engagement. I made a couple of suggestions such as a free quilting course open to community members, the donation of a community quilt or having a weekend afternoon where kids/community members could come and decorate square, which we could then sew into a community quilt. If we offer them one good suggestion that we can commit to, they will be happy to exchange the space on an ongoing basis (no charge).I think this is a wonderful opportunity! Please let me know your thoughts,Teresa

  2. That sounds like a potentially good arrangement to get space for sewing days! I was wondering whether there would be any interest in finding out who is willing to offer rides and trying to match them up with people who need rides or who want to carpool. I normally use transit or a bicycle to get around town, but with a sewing machine that's not going to work as well, and I may not be the only one.
